Read This Before You Shell Out $5,000 For Disney’s Star Wars HotelDisney is charging $5,000+ for two nights at their new Star Wars hotel. Can the experience possibly be worth it? The Sublight Lounge We’ve visited Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser both as guests of the media event and as paying guests on the inaugural sailing. Now, we’re using all of our expertise and research to answer the question everyone has been asking: Is Disney World’s Star Wars Hotel worth it? Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser is a fully-immersive two-night experience similar to a cruise ship where you are launched into your own Star Wars story on a “space cruise.” You’ll have the chance to wield a lightsaber, go on missions with characters, interact with familiar Star Wars heroes, eat space food (Blue Shrimp, we’re looking at you.), and more. Characters Your experience on Galactic Starcruiser includes your food (meals, snacks, and most non-alcoholic beverages), park entry to Disney’s Hollywood Studios for one day, your cabin, and most onboard experiences. Like a cruise, the $5,000+ price tag includes many aspects of your experience. Even when you consider ALL of the included amenities, Galactic Starcruiser is still one of the highest-priced experiences in Disney World. So, why has Disney World made this hotel SO expensive? Bridge Training What you’re really paying for is the STORY. Disney has used all of the resources at their disposal (technology, money, the Star Wars IP, etc.) to craft an almost totally immersive experience. Speaking first hand, when you’re aboard the Halcyon, you’re about as close as you can get to being in Star Wars. $4,809 is the starting rate for two adult guests in a standard cabin ($1,209 per guest per night). We’ve done the math and the full value of included food and park tickets for two people traveling on Galactic Starcruiser is around $878 (You can read more about that here!), leaving the base value of your room and onboard experiences at a still-WHOPPING $3,931 for a two-person voyage. Starcruiser Cabin A comparable (but still bigger!) room at Disney World’s most expensive hotel, Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort, has a base rate of around $760 per night or $1,520 for two nights. Starcruiser costs significantly more than DOUBLE that. Click here to learn more about what you’re paying for on Galactic Starcruiser! The Star Wars hotel is not a hotel. And that pricing has led to contention amongst fans. There has been a LOT of controversy surrounding Galactic Starcruiser. When it was first announced, fans were excited about what was an ambitious and intriguing idea from Disney. Of course, that all changed when Disney announced base prices, ranging from $4,809 for two people per cabin to $5,999 for four guests per cabin. ©Disney With such a shockingly high price tag, many of the people who had been so excited about the project now saw it as unobtainable and as Disney continued to release marketing for the experience, audiences didn’t get the feeling of how immersive the experience truly would be. Cue a lot of hate and rising doubts about how such a hotel could ever be worth $5 grand for two nights. Now that we’ve been on board, both as guests of the media cruise and paying our own way, we can say that you are NOT dropping that…

Disney’s new ‘Star Wars’ hotel includes a ‘tricked out’ suite that costs up to $20K Disney’s new Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser hotel, which lately has been blasted for being overpriced, reportedly is offering luxury suites that will cost as much as $20,000 for a two-night stay. To stay at the immersive Orlando, Fla.-based Star Wars hotel, a family of four will pay about $6,000 for two nights, with lodging, meals and entertainment included. But those looking for a more spacious, “tricked out suite” can expect to shell out an eye-popping $20,000, according to a report. In recent months, there has been fierce backlash by Disney World fans over the sky-high prices leading up to the hotel’s March 1 opening. Last December, The Mouse House scrubbed the promotional video from Twitter and YouTube, after fans slammed the lodging as subpar and too expensive. “The ‘light saber training’ looks about as exciting as a roadside sobriety test,” one Disney watcher commented on YouTube. “It’s way too expensive,” another said. The New York Times, which recently got a preview of the hotel, laid out some of the egregious additional costs guests can expect to pay outside of the basic experience fee. A stay at the hotel does not include alcohol, which runs around $13 for beer, $11 and up for wine and $23 for specialty drinks, or any fun “Star Wars” themed-extras, the report said. For instance, it costs $99 minimum to hire a photographer for a portrait or if you want to sit at the head of the captain’s table in the Starcruiser’s Crown of Corellia dining room, you’ll need to cough up an extra 30 bucks. The hotel is being billed as an immersive experience by Disney, hence the high prices. All “journeys” are two nights, and guests stay in one of 100 cabins. While the astronomically high-priced cabins do not have any windows, guests will instead get a view of screens playing videos of stars, planets and asteroid showers. Similar to an immersive theater experience like the popular “Sleep No More,” characters interact with guests during their “voyage.” According to The Times, a guest might be asked to deliver a secret message or be dispatched to the engine room to help repair a fuel valve. But super-fans can now fill the movie-shaped void with a trip to a brand-new ‘immersive hotel experience’ at Disney’s Hollywood Studios in Florida. Trips start with check-in at the Galactic Starcruiser Terminal and you’re then whisked through ‘hyperspace’ in a pod that really does look like something from the films. You’ll then have made it to the starcruiser itself, and the ‘passenger cabins’ really do look the kitschy part. Well, for all voyages guests are allowed to arrive as early as 1PM on the first day and leave as late as 10AM on the departure day. ©Disney | Transport to the hotel from the arrival area. All in all, that’s 45 total hours of the experience. That time includes the hours you spend sleeping, as well as your time visiting Galaxy’s Edge, eating, enjoying the onboard activities, and more. Rise of the Resistance in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge How Much Does it Cost Per Hour? Let’s start by running the numbers for a family of two! The $4809 price tag splits down into $106.86 per hour, or $53.43 per hour, per person. With that hourly cost, you’ll want to spend your time wisely! ©Disney For a party of three people, the per hour cost is $117.75 for the group or $39.25 per person. And for a family of four, it breaks down to $133.31 hourly for the group and $33.33 per guest, per hour. That’s definitely more affordable per person than a two-guest cabin! Living area with integrated furniture©Disney Are You Getting Your Money’s Worth? Well, it sort of depends on the time of day! For instance, if you’re sleeping, you’re probably not getting the most bang for your buck. In fact, if you’re in a group of four and you sleep 8 hours, that’s a total of $266.62 you’re paying to snooze for the night! Sublight Lounge ©Disney While you’re partaking in onboard activities, you’re more likely to get your money’s worth. Would you pay $33 to spend an hour in lightsaber training? How about to attend a reception or play a game of Sabacc in a tournament? These offerings are truly unique experiences, so it’s definitely easier to justify spending the big bucks while “on” the ship. Captain’s Table ©Disney However, when you visit Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, you’re actually paying extra! You’ll be “on the planet Batuu” for about four and a half hours during your second day. If you take the $33 per person, per hour (for a group of four people) and multiply it by four and a half hours, you’re basically paying $148.50 to visit the parks. One-day Disney tickets typically cost less than that, and you get a FULL day with those! Wow! Star Wars Hotel Concept Art ©Disney But at the end of the day, it’s…

Is Walt Disney World's Star Wars Hotel Worth the Price Tag?

Is Walt Disney World’s Star Wars Hotel Worth the Price Tag? – AllEars.Net If you’re a Star Wars fan, you’ve probably been excited to learn more about Walt Disney World’s Star Wars hotel, officially known as Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser, coming to Disney World next year. ©Disney But, if you’re like us, you were a little surprised when Disney finally revealed pricing for a two-night stay there. Needless to say, we didn’t expect the experience to come cheap, but we also didn’t expect a two-night stay for two people to be nearly $5000! So we have to ask the question: is Galactic Starcruiser worth it’s enormous price tag? Let’s break down everything we know so far. Cost The price depends on how many people you have in each cabin, and it begins at  $749 per person. A cabin with just two guests will cost $4,809, a cabin with three guests (with 2 adults and 1 child) will cost $5,299, and a cabin with four guests (with 3 adults and 1 child) will cost $5,999. Sample Pricing ©Disney Those prices are nothing to laugh at, but the value offered for the price will be a deciding factor for many guests. Disney Reveals Different Room TYPES for Star Wars Hotel It’s Not A Hotel First of all, you have to remember that this is not a hotel. This is a simulated cruise through Star Wars space that will feature two nights of interactive experiences inspired by Star Wars movies and TV shows. Concept Art Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser ©Disney So when we look at these prices, we have to think of this as NOT a hotel but as a cruise. Disney Reveals NEW Storylines That Will Tie the Star Wars Hotel Into Galaxy’s Edge What’s Included In The Price Now that we’ve made that clarification, what does that big price include? For starters, that price includes the cabin, food and beverages (except for alcohol and specialty drinks), admission to Disney’s Hollywood Studios on the second day, valet parking, and an exclusive Galactic Starcruiser Databand (aka a MagicBand). The price includes a day on Batuu It also includes a variety of interactive experiences that put you into your own Star Wars-inspired story. In this story, your choices determine how everything plays out (if you’re familiar with LARPing, it’s like that, but with Star Wars and Disney’s storytelling and special effects). ©Disney Guests will also get to indulge in a variety of activities for that price, including Sabaac lessons, bridge training, special entertainment, a droid racing competition, and more. And they’ll get to experience both of Black Spire Outpost’s attractions: Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run and Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance. Disney Shares Just HOW Much You Need to Participate at the Star Wars Hotel What’s Not Included In The Price There are some things not included in the price, too — for example, your travel to and from Disney World, whether that be by driving to Orlando or flying to Orlando. Souvenirs, save for the MagicBands for your group, are also not included. And if you want to extend your stay at Disney World, you’ll still need to pay for additional accommodations, park tickets, and meals when…

A look aboard Disney's $6000 per stay, immersive Star Wars

A first look at Disney’s ambitious (and expensive) interactive Star Wars hotelIf you buy something from a Verge link, Vox Media may earn a commission. See our ethics statement. I walked into Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser prepared to pretend. I was going to be Ch’aim Garteenbar, a reformed smuggler celebrating going straight with a luxurious cruise trip on the Halcyon, pride of Chandrila Star Line. Unfortunately, due to the compressed nature of the media preview, I spent most of my time aboard Disney’s biggest bet in years in my usual guise of “Chaim Gartenberg, reporter.” Part hotel, part LARP, part theme park, Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser wants to be nothing less than the ultimate Star Wars experience, one that sucks you into a living, breathing sci-fi story unfolding around you — and for the price that Disney is placing on it, one that has a lot of expectations to live up to. The main Atrium of the Halcyon and what you’ll see when you first step on board. To be extremely clear from the start: this is not a review of the full Galactic Starcruiser experience. The media preview I attended was a four-hour curated “sampler platter” of what guests will get over a two-day stay. I didn’t get to sleep at the hotel, and my time “on board” was focused on seeing the major set pieces and interactive components in group settings instead of the choice-based, smaller storylines that guests will get to build out over the full two-day trip. As such, this is not an assessment of whether the whole package is worth the eye-watering $4,809 starting price that Disney is charging for a Galactic Starcruiser stay. (The exorbitant price tag was never far from my mind when I was touring the “ship,” though.) While I can’t tell you everything about the minute-to-minute details of the branching, interactive storylines that Galactic Starcruiser is putting so much emphasis on, I did get to travel aboard the Halcyon and see some of the greatest hits and unique elements of the experience. Galactic Starcruiser, much like Galaxy’s Edge before it, isn’t just a creation for Disney theme parks. The modern desire to connect every element of media and storytelling together is a part of the Galactic Starcruiser experience, and Disney is already working to seed the luxury liner across decades of Star Wars history. The Halcyon plays a role in the ongoing High Republic multimedia storyline of books; there’s already a comic book series that explains the backstory and shows iconic characters like Anakin Skywalker, Padme Amidala, and Lando Calrissian’s stays aboard the ship. There’s also the recently announced novel The Princess and the Scoundrel, which will reveal the untold story of Han and Leia’s honeymoon on the Halcyon. At the current rate of Galactic Starcruiser tie-ins, I’d put even odds on the ship appearing in an episode of a Disney Plus show before the year is out. Establishing the Halcyon as a key part of Star Wars lore isn’t just Disney not-so-subtly building hype and marketing for its pricey hotel, though. It’s a foundation for a key part of the sales pitch to guests. You don’t just get to live in a Star Wars-ish story for a day or two; your time aboard the Halcyon is part of the Star Wars saga — as much a part of canon as any of the movies, video games, or books. That idea of living in an interactive hotel experience has seen Galactic Starcruiser draw a lot of comparisons to Westworld, the eponymous theme park from the HBO series. The two have a lot in common: a promise of total immersion in a fictional world (complete with factions and costumes), the idea that guests can forge their own stories within the setting, and the sky-high price tag that limits attendance to guests with exceptionally deep pockets. Galactic Starcruiser even has its own AI companions and roving robots (although they’re far less murderous than those in Westworld’s.) But Westworld’s impossible park promises a place where you can do anything or be anyone in the Wild West. Galactic Starcruiser puts more emphasis…

Ever since the Star Wars Hotel was announced we’ve been waiting to find out when it is opening. Now, finally, the wait is over! The Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser Hotel opened on March 1, 2022! Up until Fall 2021, we knew it was opening sometime in Spring 2022 but didn’t know the exact date. Disney’s original plan was to open it sometime in 2021. That made sense since Disney wanted to make a big splash for the 50th anniversary of Walt Disney World, which was on October 1, 2021. Obviously, Disney’s original plans got changed and it was delayed until March 1, 2022. We’ve seen this with many projects across Walt Disney World. Since construction was temporarily shut down for 4 months, the Star Wars Hotel was delayed, then issues relating to the current health crisis made everything even more difficult. Even though some were worried about it being canceled, it was never on the list of the potential Disney attractions that are in danger of being cut. They’ve invested too heavily in the Galactic Starcruiser that there was no way the project was getting shelved. We do wonder what the economic and health situation will be like in the coming years and if there will be a great demand for an ultra-expensive experience like this. So far, the Galactic Starcruiser has received rave reviews from most of the guests who have had the chance to visit (we’ll get to ours in a minute), but it will be interesting to see how…
