Find Express Deals Hotels, up to 60% off

If you are always on the hunt for great hotel discounts like I am, you may have heard of a Priceline feature called Express Deals. During your hotel search, Priceline speckles in mystery hotel offers that provide extra savings of up to 60% off. They also have a page called Priceline Express Deals that’s dedicated to all the mystery hotel listings at steep discounts.

Sounds awesome right? Well, there’s a catch. They don’t reveal the name of the hotel until after you pay, and the booking is non-refundable. This is a neat money-saving option for people who like a little ambiguity and adventure with their hotel stays. On the flip side, this can be an inconvenience for those of us who are particular about where we’re staying and like to know exactly what we’re getting into.

Well today, this mystery will be solved! I want to share one of my best money-saving tricks for booking Priceline hotel rooms at steeply discounted rates. Now I don’t stay at hotels too often, but when I do, you’ll know I’m on the hunt for the best deal before I just book at face value.

This trick allows you to book the exact hotel you want at the Express Deals discounted rate vs the rate they offer upfront for the hotel, which is never as good as the Express Deal rate. By putting in a little legwork, you’ll be able to save a good amount of money! But trust me, it isn’t even that much legwork! Once you learn this trick and practice it a few times, you’ll be able to pinpoint and identify Priceline Express Deal hotels in a matter of seconds.

    WHAT ARE PRICELINE EXPRESS DEALS?

Before we dive into the tips and tricks, let’s start with the facts.

Priceline Express Deals offers mystery hotels for extra savings of up to 60% off. Choose from a huge collection of top hotels at incredible prices with no bidding required. They will show you the neighborhood, amenities, and price of each hotel before you book. But the catch is that the exact hotel is revealed only after booking.

There are usually different price points for the hotel if you select your room type. However, you’ll see the greatest savings if you select the option to have your room assigned to you at check-in. The Priceline Express Deal hotel bookings are also non-refundable.

Note: Make sure you are not going to have a change of plans from the time of booking to the time of stay (easier said than done). These hotel bookings are non-refundable, so there is some risk involved. (No risk, no reward, right?)

I usually leverage Express Deals if I am going on group trips of 6+. Chances are if I have to cancel or bail, there are enough folks going to take my spot/hotel room so it isn’t completely wasted if I can’t make it.

I also use Express Deals for last-minute stays since I’ll know for a fact that I’m going on a trip and that I’ll need a room.

FIND OUT EXACTLY WHAT HOTEL YOU’LL GET WITH PRICELINE EXPRESS DEALS: HOW-TO GUIDE

Figuring out which hotel you’re going to get on Priceline is going to involve a few minutes of your time and perhaps a notepad to jot down some numbers. Here’s exactly how you do it.

    1. SEARCH FOR YOUR DESTINATION AND TRAVEL DATES

Before you begin narrowing down hotels for your upcoming vacation, be sure to familiarize yourself with the best neighborhoods to stay in as well as landmarks and attractions you want to see. This research should help you better pinpoint your ideal hotel location when choosing a hotel.

Priceline Express Deals allows you to filter down on the neighborhoods of your choice, so make sure you do this if you have something specific in mind (or even if you just want to exclude hotels in sketchier areas). If you aren’t familiar with your destination’s neighborhoods, you can refer to Priceline’s neighborhood list and Google the neighborhoods to learn more about them.

    priceline express deals search

For our example today, we’re going to look at hotels offered on Priceline for Paris, France.

    2. HEAD TO THE EXPRESS DEALS PAGE, NARROW DOWN THE CHOICES

Once you’re on the Priceline website, head on over to the Express Deals page. From here, choose a hotel that’s of your liking in terms of its attributes: location, price, amenities offered, hotel star rating, and customer rating. Remember, at this point, you cannot go by the name of the hotels, only features and descriptions, so some flexibility is required on your part.

Luckily, Priceline allows you to use the amenities filter even when you switch your hotel search to the Express Deal listings, so make sure to take advantage of this feature!

If free WiFi, free breakfast, or a hotel gym is important to you, be sure to include it in your amenities filter. I recommend you check the boxes for everything you could possibly want at first, just to see what is available. As you browse through the deals, you can uncheck the amenities one by one based on the level of importance to you. Narrow your Express Deals list down to a few that you’re actually willing to consider staying at.

    priceline express deals page

As you can see here, my search for Paris, France has resulted in 1202 Express Deal hotels. We’re going to work to narrow these down based on my preferences. Ideally, I’d like to stay in the hip neighborhood of Le Marais at a 4+ star hotel, and I’m looking to pay no more than $150 per night.

In this example, let’s say I’ve scrolled through the list and found that I’m very interested in the hotel with the following details:

    • priced at $147, originally $190
    • located in the Le Marais neighborhood
    • 4-star hotel
    • 7+ customer rating
    • 100+ reviews available
    • Specific room names include: “One King Bed – Suite” and “One King Bed – Executive Suite”

Note: Taking note of the specific room names isn’t required, but it will be your foolproof superpower towards the end of the process. You’ll be able to confirm your hotel with 100% confidence and it’ll dispel all previous doubts about choosing the wrong hotel from your mind, trust me!

    3. OPEN UP ANOTHER TAB WITH THE REGULAR HOTEL SEARCH RESULTS

In the new tab, recreate your Priceline search again, selecting the same neighborhood and the same dates of travel. This might be available already on your original search tab, so you should just be one click away.

This time, you’re going to make use of the filters Priceline offers you to narrow down hotels. Take the amenities, neighborhood details, and hotel rating details you gathered when you selected your mystery hotel of choice and use them to filter down the full hotel list.

If you were able to narrow down your list pretty severely with just those filters, congrats! You’re almost at the finish line.

On the other hand, if you still have about 20 mystery hotels listed, it’s totally okay if your inputs only narrowed down your list slightly. You’re still on the right track.

    priceline express deals hotel list

In our example: just by filtering for the neighborhood (Le Marais – Republique), hotel star rating (4-stars), and customer rating (7+), I was able to narrow my search of 1066 Paris hotels down to only 7. Sweet!

    4. START PAYING ATTENTION TO THE HOTEL PRICES NOW

Now you’re going to rule out hotels based on the original price of the hotel. You can ignore the discount/current price since those are irrelevant for this search. Pay attention to the original price.

Often times, the original list price shown on the Express Deal matches up perfectly to the price listed on the results page. That makes our job easier. Other times, it could be off by a few dollars, which introduces a small curveball, but nothing that prevents us from working our magic here.

priceline express deals hotel list crowne plaza

In our example: The Express Deal I want mentions that my hotel room’s original price is $190. This is the number I’ll be looking for in the list of 7 remaining hotels. I’ll be looking for something around $190 in the original price.

Et voila! The first hotel listed has a list price of $192 (close enough to my $190). No other hotel listing is close to my $192 option, so this is going to be my top contending guess.

    5. ADD UP THE CLUES AND CONFIRM YOUR GUESS

Now go into the mystery hotel’s details page. There are so many clues on this page for you to use to confirm your guess. Pay attention to the following and compare them to your guessed hotel’s details: number of stars, customer rating, number of reviews left by customers, and even top amenities. (I typically ignore the amenities list until I really need to use it— the process usually ends before I need it. The list is just too big and tedious to go through.)

Last but not least, is your guessed hotel listed in the “Guaranteed to be one of these hotel brands” section? All of these details should help you confirm what you’re getting if you book the Express Deal you chose in the beginning.

    priceline express deals hotel details

In our example: The Crowne Plaza Paris Republique listing is a dead giveaway that this is the exact hotel listed on the Express Deals page. Why? It’s all in the details!

The Crowne Plaza Republique hotel details:

    • 4-star hotel
    • 7.5 customer rating
    • 116 reviews available

These high-level details could not have matched up better to the Express Deals details. At this point, I pretty much know for sure that if I were to book the Express Deal in question, I would get the Crowne Plaza Paris Republique.

    6. USE THE AMENITIES FILTER AND ROOM NAMES

Sometimes, there could be 2-3 hotels that fit within your hotel profile based on just the above details. In this case, you can use the amenities list to narrow down your search even more. Maybe one hotel has a free airport shuttle or pool while the others don’t. Maybe one has a free breakfast while the others don’t.

Lastly, if you need ultimate confirmation that you’ve identified the hotel correctly, go into the hotel details page and check out the room names and descriptions. If the Express Deal you chose offers a regular king room and an executive king room, then make sure the hotel listing also offers these variations. The exact wording of the room description can differ, but they should at least offer the same type of rooms.

If the room descriptions on the hotel listing are nothing like the descriptions on the Express Deal listing, then this is an indication that you’ve identified the wrong hotel. (Ex: The hotel lists that all rooms have king beds BUT the Express Deal offers rooms with double beds only.) Not to worry, go back to your top contender list and try again!

    7. APPLY ADDITIONAL DISCOUNTS BEFORE CHECKING OUT

I’m all about finding and applying additional discounts whenever possible. Even though Express Deals are already offering up to 60% off hotel retail prices, Priceline often has 10-15% off promo codes that specifically apply towards Express Deals.

So how do you get these promo codes? I find that after booking a car rental with Priceline, they usually send me a coupon for a future Express Deals booking. Alternatively, you can do a quick search on the web for these codes— the chance to save an extra $25 to $300 on a hotel booking (based on the cost of your booking) is so worth the extra 5 minutes searching the internet.

Sometimes, Priceline even offers coupon codes directly on their website!

And there you have it, you’ve just saved yourself a % of the amount you would have paid had you “knowingly” booked that hotel. It’s really that easy, so try for yourself! Go get those Priceline Express Deals savings!

    WHAT IS PRICELINE PRICEBREAKER DEALS?

PRODUCT UPDATE: Priceline now also has Pricebreaker Deals–another feature offering up to 50% off retail on one of three hotels displayed to you. This is a neat little feature that also allows Priceline to offer you exclusive deals discretely. The catch? You won’t see which of the 3 hotels you get until after checkout, but it will for sure be one of them.

    My Favorite Travel Booking Resources

These are my favorite companies to use when planning out a new trip itinerary. The sites/companies listed here typically have the best overall value, offer deals, beat out other competitors, and offer great customer service when needed.

    • WayAway | This site compares flight ticket fares from hundreds of agencies. You’re going to get the best prices on the market, at least $10 lower than those on Skyscanner, Kayak, and Priceline.com. The best part is? The WayAway Plus membership. With the membership, you’ll get up to 10% cash back on airline tickets, hotel bookings, car rentals, and other travel services.
      • DEAL ALERT! Use code ‘travelswithelle’ for 10% off WayAway Plus.
    • Booking.com | Honestly, this is my go-to accommodation booking site. This site has free cancellation and no prepayment required on reservations which is huge for me. It also has amazing abilities to filter accommodation options by rating and price. Honestly, it’s shaved off so many hours of endless research for me and has made booking hotels and other accommodations a breeze.
    • Viator | Viator is a huge online marketplace for all things tours and excursions. They have tons of tour options available in cities all around the world, including everything from cooking classes, ATV tours, sailing trips, walking tours, hot air ballooning, and more.
    • Go City | Go City offers great value-for-the-money attraction passes in various destinations around the world. Whenever I want to play tourist in a city, I always check to see if Go City operates in that city. The money you can save with this pass is unreal (as opposed to buying admission tickets for various attractions separately).
    • Bookaway | This is my go-to transportation resource when I’m traveling to lesser-known destinations and need to figure out how to get from point A to point B. Bookaway is super useful when you have absolutely no idea how to get around between cities or even between countries! Just type in your starting point and destination and it’ll show you options on how to get there by train, bus, ferry & more – as well as allow you to book your transportation right then and there!
    • SafetyWing | SafetyWing is by far one of the best travel medical insurance for travelers as they’ve got a large network and offer both short-term and long-term coverage. They have cheap monthly plans, great customer service, and an easy-to-use claims process that makes it perfect for those heading abroad.
    • World Nomads | Also a great travel insurance company if you’re looking for the most comprehensive travel insurance out there. Their coverage is very comprehensive, making it a good choice if you are more adventurous and plan on partaking in thrill-seeking activities or plan on moving around with lots of electronics and expensive gear.

We’re so curious! Did this trick help you get the hotel you were looking for? Let us know in the comments!

The exact hotel name is revealed after booking.A lot of people are afraid of booking “the unknown” — I was too. But the more I think about it, the more I realize I hardly ever book a hotel based on its name. When I book a hotel, what matters most to me is the reviews, location, and amenities. So I decided to try it out…To show you the kind of hotels you can book by focusing on location, rating, and amenities, I booked four hotels using Priceline Express Deals for my summer road trip. This is a 4-star hotel right in the heart of downtown Buffalo and walking distance from bars, attractions, and yes — famous Buffalo wing spots.  We were greeted upon check in with champagne and a smile, and sent on our way to our amazing king room. After a tiring couple of nights camping and hiking in Letchworth State Park, The Westin Buffalo was just what we needed. The upscale room offered a comfortable bed and plenty of natural light, a sofa, refrigerator, and upscale bathroom space. What I loved most about this hotel was the striking city view from floor-to-ceiling panoramic windows in the fitness center, and its impeccable guest service. No matter their professional grade, someone was always asking how we were doing. We had no idea it was a “thing” and were shocked at how expensive the hotels were because of it. As a result, we had trouble finding a good hotel deal for our weekend visit. Then we booked an Express Deal and got 22% off retail prices on a 4-star hotel in the downtown area. How to Use Priceline's Pricebreakers and Express Deals

How to Use Priceline’s Pricebreakers and Express Deals – SimplifiedThis article may contain affiliate links where we make a small commission for purchases you make from links that you click from this article. For more details, read the disclosure page. For the longest time, Priceline’s “Name Your Own Price” was a hidden (albeit unnecessarily complicated way) to get amazing deals on hotels. With this feature now sun-setted, Priceline is now turning to Pricebreakers and Express Deals to get you hotel deals. In this article, we’re going to break down how each of these features work, whether they’re worth using, and also different tricks to make sure you get what you’re looking for. This is Priceline for dummies. Wait what happened to “Name Your Own Price”? If you’re here wondering where “Name Your Own Price” has gone, Priceline has removed it since early 2020. They pulled it from the platform without any major announcement which is why you probably didn’t know. It’s likely that we won’t see it come back but you never know! The new program that they have is called “Pricebreakers” and “Express Deals” which we’ll explain in detail in terms of how they work and how to take advantage of them. What is Priceline? Priceline is owned by Booking Holdings Inc. and that name should sound familiar because Booking.com has certainly skyrocketed these past 10 years as one of the de-facto hotel booking platforms. That said, Priceline has continued to chug along and retained its position in the market alongside other subsidiaries which also include Kayak, Agoda, Cheapflights, Rentalcars, Momondo, and OpenTable. Priceline is most popularly used in the USA where it has the strongest portfolio. Customers primarily use the platform to book hotels but you can also find flights, car rentals, and cruises. When Priceline was its strongest, William Shatner was one of the spokespeople for the brand with the role of “Price negotiator”. This fell in line with features such “Name Your Own Price”. Priceline is a website that sells discounted everything from hotels, car rentals and flights.  When you do a normal search for hotels on it you can get some decent deals but the tricks it to learn how to use the bidding tool called “Name Your Own Price”. One of the latest features on Priceline is Pricebreakers. This is a tool that claims that the price of hotels are up to 50% off retail. While similar to Express Deals, it’s different because instead of showing the geographical location and its perimeter, it gives you names of 3 hotels that could be anywhere in your destination of interest. One of them is yours if you book but you just don’t know which. If you want to get a sure thing, you can also opt to pay the listed “retail” for the hotel. This is the same as going to any hotel booking platform and just paying straight-up. What you need to know Here are a few things that you’re probably already wondering about: Taxes and fees: The Pricebreaker listed price does not include taxes…

For more information check out our Advertising Disclosure. There is no shortage of ways to save big bucks on plane tickets and hotels. We’ve got plenty of tips to book the cheapest flights possible and saving on hotels. And then there are Priceline Express Deals. A relatively new entrant in the arena of booking cheap flights and hotels, Priceline has upped their game with these extra-special (and sometimes, extra cheap) discounts. But there are some critical things to know before you book. Read on to learn more about Priceline Express Deals and how they can save you hundreds. First, let’s go through what these deals are – and how Priceline is able to offer cheap prices. What Are Priceline Express Deals? If you search for flights or hotels often on Priceline, you’ve likely come across this box, notifying you of an “Express Deal.” Priceline Express Deals can pop up when you search for a flight deal or hotel in Priceline. For example, this Priceline Express flight deal offer is $141 less than the next cheapest flight to Europe on Priceline. Priceline’s website states that Express Deals can save users up to 40% off their flight ticket and 60% off a hotel stay for their desired departure, destination, and travel date range. Here’s how they do it: airlines give discounts to online travel agencies (OTA) like Priceline, allowing them to offer deals on airfare to consumers that won’t be available elsewhere. And while there are some major factors to keep in mind with booking through an OTA versus an airline, the savings can be real. And Priceline takes that to the next level with Express Deals. 7 Things to Know About Priceline Express Flight Deals You’re probably thinking to yourself, “This is too good to be true!” Luckily, Priceline makes it easy to understand why these flight prices are cheaper (we’ll touch on hotel deals later). There are a few critical components to keep in mind about Express Deals. 1. Express Deals are different from almost any airfare you buy. When booking through Express Deals, you’ll see a list of several airlines the deal might be through. The airline you will be flying isn’t revealed until after booking. This flight deal service is similar to the Hopper Secret Fare: The airline is shown only after you book the ticket. 2. But don’t worry, these are major international airlines – not budget carriers. Typically, this option shows up for more popular international routes, and are not as common to see on domestic or less-traveled routes. 3. An Express Deal’s full itinerary is not disclosed prior to purchase. This means that only details of general timing are given prior to purchase, such as “evening takeoff” or “morning takeoff”, as seen in the photo below. 4. Click on the deal to see more details on your itinerary – most are either nonstop or one-stop flights. Exact departure and return times are revealed after purchasing the ticket. 5. Make sure you read the fine print and are okay with the restrictions: Express Deal flights are non-refundable and non-changeable. Unlike other flights booked on Priceline, Express Deals are not eligible for the 24-hour cancellation policy. 6. Each Express Deal will be different, but some will include a free carry-on bag and advanced seat selection. Most other cheap flight options are basic economy and don’t include seat selection. The Express Deal might be a few hundred dollars cheaper and get you more! Note there are some drawbacks to booking with an online travel agency like Priceline instead of booking directly with the airline, especially during COVID-19. These fares won’t be eligible for fee-free changes and cancellations airlines are offering….

How to Book Cheap Hotels (with Priceline Express Deals)

How to Book Cheap Hotels (with Priceline Express Deals)As a full-time traveller, if there’s one thing I know, it’s how to find great travel deals. I’m have ninja skills when it comes finding cheap flights, I got over $300 worth of free taxi rides in the USA in one month this year and when I book hotels I’m regularly securing rates that are 30%-60% off the rack rate.In this upcoming series, I’m going to show you how to book cheap hotels, flights and generally reduce your travel related expenses.First up..So, let’s start with the obvious – there’s a glut of good hotel booking websites out there and it can be hard to choose between them. Even as an experienced travel booker, I bounce between the various sites on a regular basis unable to pick a favourite. However, in the past few months I’ve been having a lot of success using Priceline. And very specifically Priceline Express Deals, getting hotel prices that are otherwise unobtainable on the other booking sites.Note: this isn’t one of those articles where Priceline have contacted me and asked me to write damn spiffy fine stuff about their brand. In fact, they don’t even know I’m writing this. I have genuinely had great deals booking through their website, which is why I’m recommending them to you.A straightforward Priceline search – good but average resultsPriceline is like many other hotel booking websites. You plug in the location, add your dates and it brings up a range of hotels to choose from, many at a discount. The prices there can be good, but there’s very little variation compared to similar booking sites. For example, search for a 2 night stay in Birmingham, Alabama, USA (a location I was recently looking to book) and the average price for a 3-4 star hotel like the Sheraton came in around $112 to $119 per night. Add taxes and that rate increases to $131.84 per night. That’s a decent saving off the rack-rate – booking direct on the Sheraton website would cost $163 plus a fee for Wi-Fi (free Wi-Fi was on offer through the booking websites). But I wanted to see if I could get a similar quality hotel for even less.Enter Priceline Express Deals.Pro Booking Tip: I usually start all of my hotel searches using Trivago, which very quickly compiles the hotel prices across some of the biggest and best hotel booking sites out there. The screenshot above if from my search on Trivago. What is Priceline Express Deals? The most significant and unique fact about Priceline Express Deals is that the name of the hotel is unknown until AFTER you book. It’s similar to Lastminute.com’s Top Secret Hotels and is similar even to Priceline’s “Name Your Own Price” deals (though see below for a summary of the difference between Priceline’s different ways of booking hotels). It may seem like a risk – booking an unknown hotel – but not only does it lead to some amazing savings, there are several things you can do to make an educated guess at the hotel you’re booking. In fact, I’ve made three recent bookings using Priceline Express Deals and I’ve correctly guessed the hotel each time.Priceline Express Deals versus Priceline Name Your Own PricePriceline offers three options for booking cheap hotels.– The straightforward search, which often offers cheap hotel deals compared to booking with the hotel direct.– Name Your…

How to Book Cheap Hotels With Priceline's Express Deals …

How to Dramatically Slash Your Hotel Costs With These Priceline Tricks So maybe you’ve heard about how Priceline and Booking.com are now one and the same, and I suppose if you’re not already an avid user of both sites, you might make the mistake of assuming they offer an identical product. Certainly, Priceline has come a long way from its early splash as a bidding site, but that evolution already began quite some time ago. While you can no longer name your own price on flights or rental cars, what you still can do—as long as you know the do’s, don’ts, and accidental pitfalls—is save more than fifty percent on your hotel stays on a regular basis, and not only on last-minute stays, either. My job is to travel, and for the better part of the last few years, almost full-time. Keeping housing costs low is an extremely important part of the gig. There are many ways a traveler can slash expenses. Airbnb, with its faults, is great for stays of a few days or more, while studied loyalty to hotel chains can yield a surprising number of rewards and discounts that help you pay yourself back. For longer hotel stays, it is now common—I see a lot of this in the United Kingdom and Europe—to offer rates of nearly fifty percent off rack, to anyone willing to commit. Much of my work, however, requires short stays in American cities; time and again, Priceline has been my trusted ally. I’ve strayed at times, to other services like Hotels.com, which can also do great things for cash-conscious travelers, but in the end, the predictability of Priceline has always won the day for me. Who wouldn’t, after all, like to save nearly 60 percent on a good hotel, with only a few little tips and tricks to bear in mind? Sound too good to be true? I’ve got the receipts to prove it. Last year, quick Priceline searches landed me 43 percent off a multi-day stay at an Aloft in Denver, 58 percent off at a recently renovated Marriott in Kansas City, 40 percent off a nearly week-long stay a Sheraton in Houston, just $60 in the middle of the summer, with parking, at a Hilton in downtown Pittsburgh. And that’s just a few of the highlights. Related: This One Credit Card Gets You Into 1,000+ Airport Lounges  Nearly every time, I used Priceline’s Express Deals tool, something referred to in industry-speak as an opaque booking, meaning that they gave me some details, but didn’t tell me the name of the property before I hit the button and paid. After years of using the site, I’ve probably been surprised by the name of the property maybe 1% of the time—with a little bit of sleuthing, it’s almost impossible not to guess correctly. Ready to cut the cost of your next trip in half, and twice as long? Here’s everything you need to know. How to Save Money on Hotels with Priceline’s Express Deals So you’ve logged on, and everything’s confusing. Where to begin? First of all, it’s 2021, so download the app. Don’t write off the web site, though. Both have their part to play in getting you the best deals. I like to perform a general search first, just to see what the market is doing. Let’s say for New Orleans, a…
